Jorn & George are the Co-founders of rendeevoo and here is their entrepreneur stories:
What attracted you to become entrepreneurs?
Our professional ethos is always questioning the status quo in business, and particularly within the corporate world. Being so highly aspirational in our respective fields, always felt like we limit our potentials to evolve and become better professionals.
Taking the hard way seemed as the only way to go forward...
How did the idea of rendeevoo come about?
It was January 2012 when George first discovered the online dating world. It seemed like a rotten dying breed of out-of-date platforms that were purely focusing on the online world. That triggered many questions which naturally helped us spotting an opportunity to serve this market with a different model.
rendeevoo employs a transaction-based model that is geared to generate real-life encounters. All its competitors are online communities that rely on network effects to be viable.
What were the biggest struggles in your startup/entrepreneur journey?
We are both first-time entrepreneurs with little exposure to consumer tech or consumer oriented brands. That is both our biggest disadvantage, but also what makes us so unique!
On a more specific level, our biggest struggle is to market something as new as rendeevoo. It’s not easy communicating the HUGE difference our brand has with well-known dating apps like Tinder to our audience.
Do you have any advice for the other entrepreneurs to be?
Our primary advice is to think twice before beginning this journey, but when you do make sure to go all-in. There’s no other way to success.
During the early days, you have to keep a balance between the short-term moves and your company’s vision. Be extra careful with whom you do business with, and most importantly choose your investors wisely (in respect to their strategic importance but also the equity offered). If you can’t feel proud for your CAP table, something will go wrong sooner or later...
What are the next steps and the vision for rendeevoo?
In a few years from now, rendeevoo will be the leader on the “meet-new-people” markets. You will be able to use our services in pretty much every metropolis around the globe, and with a more integrated solution beyond a mobile app as it is today (biometrics here we come!).
How did coworking in the Rainmaking Loft help your business?
Rainmaking Loft is a great space to work from, filled with amazing individuals that constitute a collaborative environment where knowledge and skills are frequently exchanged between Lofters.
We wouldn’t trade it for anything! Sometimes we feel as if we belong in a very diverse multinational corporation that has nothing to envy from others! Make it rain people! Make it rain :)
