2014: Challenges, Achievements, and the Greatest Treasure of All

published on 12 Jan 2026

The new year 2015 has already claimed its rights, but 2014 was a glorious year. So, today we decided to take a look back at all the big things that made it so special for Rainmaking Loft Berlin.

Feb 27, 2025 – THE Day It All Began.

To be precise, the story goes a way back. In June 2013, Startupbootcamp picked a former art gallery as a home base for its accelerator program in Berlin. Once the program was successfully completed, the future co-founders of the Loft realized that they’d like to give back to the amazing community of tech startups the program had created. The idea soon developed into a coworking space. The space grew, with more and more international startups joining in.

But it wasn’t until THE day of Feb, 27, 2014, that the evolving coworking space threw its official launch party and proudly presented itself to the startup community as the Rainmaking Loft Berlin.

June 2014 – When Angels Went Naked.

The host of the popular cooking program “The Naked Chef” stripped cooking to the basics so that everyone could do it. Taking this principle as the base, the co-founders of the Rainmaking Loft Berlin decided to create a completely different angel investors group. As opposed to the common picture of posh guys in suits who look down at the startups, the angel investors of this new group would value simplicity, transparency and eye-level communication. True to their original inspiration, they called the newly formed group “The Naked Angel Club.”

August 2014 – When We Took the Matter Upstairs.

At that point, the coworking space downstairs was already filled with great startups. The teams grew and required extra space, and, sometimes, a separate office. The solution presented itself in a shape of a newly vacant office space, just two stories up from the Loft. From then on, the startups could choose between a vibrant coworking space and a private office one, depending on their team’s needs.

Aug 6 – Nov 5, 2025 – When Startupbootcamp Accelerated the Things Around.

We were there when 11 outstanding teams from 9 different countries were selected for Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation & Energy program. We made sure there was enough coffee and support for them to go through the mentorship, workshops and all the sleepless nights. And, finally, we were there biting our lips and keeping our fingers crossed when the teams made their brilliant presentations on the Demo Day. It was an exhilarating experience and we are looking forward to Startupbootcamp 2015!

Nov 7, 2025 – When Le Labo Made It Official.

Even though the doors of the Loft’s stylish café were open since June 2014, Le Labo’s official opening party was yet to come. Everyone knew it should be grand. And that it was. Burlesque, wild jazz, acrobats, ritzed up flappers and fellas, and, of course, rivers of bathtub gin were all there to bring back 1920’s in their full glory and mischief. The opening party matched its name: it was truly a fabulous Cirque des Fous.

The year 2014 was also filled with a variety of events that enriched and united our startup community.

  • We ran multiple local startup meetups (including some regular ones like Berlin Startup Poker, Coworking Jelly and Bitcoin meetup) and fireside chats (e.g. Trust that it will get easier, Doing good or doing money). Thus, Rainmaking Loft Berlin became a place for startups to meet, connect, and share their ideas.

  • We hosted numerous workshops (e.g. Berlin App Strategy, Hacking Health) and events that helped startups learn, develop and grow, like SenseCamp and Startup Safary (the next one is happening on the 28th-30th of Jan!)

  • We provided a place for startups to brainstorm, collaborate intensively and build something new over the course of one of the eight hackathons we hosted at Rainmaking Loft Berlin, among which Smart Transportation & Energy Hackathon, Bosch’s first Connected Car Hackathon, and SymfonyLive Berlin 2014 Hack Day.

  • We helped Old and New Economy find a common ground by bringing the corporates and startups together in the events like Berliner Bank meets Startupbootcamp.

  • We threw small, big, and outrageously grand parties. There were cabarets, launch celebrations, holiday parties, and Friday after-work drinks that more than often turned into the dancing-on-the-counter parties.

But above all, our main achievement of 2014, our greatest treasure of all, was creating an amazing, diverse, and vibrant community of startups, entrepreneurs and just like-minded people.

We wanted to thank you all for that mind-blowing year, for being there for the Loft, for being the Loft and we are looking forward to even more exciting year 2015!
